If you're looking for the voice of experience, it's hard to beat someone who has held onto the same job for 31 years.
Charleston Mayor Joe Riley has agreed to serve as a mentor to a Camden attorney who's one of this year's class of participants in the Liberty Fellowship, a statewide leadership program sponsored by Wofford College, the Aspen Institute and Hayne Hipp, former CEO of Greenville-based broadcaster Liberty Corp., who founded the initiative. It's modeled on Aspen's program that draws fellows from around the world.
Riley will be offering his unique perspective to Vincent A. Sheheen, an attorney with Camden-based Savage Royall and Sheheen LLP.
Four Lowcountry residents are among this year's Liberty Fellows:
--David P. Agnew, a former adviser to Riley and owner of the Civic Square LLC real estate consulting firm, will be mentored by Gayle O. Averyt, former chairman of Columbia-based Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Co.
--Dr. Ann Kulze, a family physician and founder of Just Wellness LLC, will be mentored by Lake City native and financier Darla Moore, a partner in Rainwater Inc. and founder and chairwoman of the Palmetto Institute economic think tank.
--Dwayne Green and Toya Hampton Green, partners at the law firm of Hampton Green LLC, will be mentored by, respectively, Luther Fredrick Carter, president of Francis Marion University, and Paula Harper Bethea, director of external relations for McNair Law Firm PA.
