Greenville, SC – Liberty Fellowship, the statewide leadership program launched in 2003 by Hayne Hipp, The Aspen Institute and Wofford College, today announced that it will award $50,000 annually to one of its Fellows’ class project. The first annual Liberty Prize will be awarded on January 26, 2008 at the Liberty Fellowship Reunion in Greenville. “We now have 80 Fellows actively putting the principles they’ve learned into practice through community leadership projects,” explained Hayne Hipp, Founder of Liberty Fellowship. “As the impact of these projects reverberates throughout South Carolina, we want to raise the bar even higher by offering a prize that serves as both reward and incentive for Fellows, and that has a profound impact on one of many deserving projects.” The winning community leadership project will be chosen by a jury of Fellow peers from finalists that are selected among a pool of applicants from the graduated Classes of 2006 and 2007. The winning community project must:

  • Have a significant impact on the citizens of South Carolina
  • Exhibit a commitment to continue into the foreseeable future
  • Serve as a model for other organizations, communities, states or nations
  • Have the potential for significant expansion or enhancement
  • Be operational for at least one year

The finalists will be selected by a committee of the Liberty Fellowship Board of Directors in November 2007. Liberty Fellowship, the statewide leadership effort sponsored by Hayne Hipp, Wofford College and The Aspen Institute, seeks to inspire values-based leadership among South Carolina leaders aged 25-45.
