South Carolina’s state government structure is unlike any other in the nation. The role of the Budget and Control Board as a policy setting body, the limited power of the governor, the process by which state judges are appointed and the large number of elected offices can create confusion, tension and, if nothing else, plenty of debate throughout the state.
Change may be approaching. Several bills moving through the General Assembly this session address some of the inefficiencies and could be precursors to more impactful changes ahead.
In this free webinar, Public Policy Forum Co-chair John Simpkins will lead the discussion on this Forum priority item. Simpkins, a constitutional law expert, is Assistant Professor of Law and Director of Diversity Initiatives at the Charleston School of Law as well as Of Counsel at Wyche, PA.
Luanne Runge, Public Policy Forum Co-chair and Partner with Gallivan, White & Boyd PA will review activity on our other Forum priorities (gender equality and racial unity).
Open to Public Policy Forum members. To view the recorded webinar, click here.
